Travelling on two wheels
The Hérault region is famous for its many signposted cycling routes. Whether you prefer the racing bike or the mountain bike (VTT) – there are suitable routes for every taste. The Domaine Languedoc is located in the heart of a paradise for lovers of bicycles. See more on the following website.
Excursion through historical sites
The rich heritage of the Cathars is shown in all its diversity. One of the biggest sights is Carcassonne. A day trip is worthwhile.
Parc National du Haut Languedoc
We are centrally located between the sea and the national park “Haut-Languedoc”. This includes the southern foothills of the French Central Massif. It is ideal for long walks of all abilities, mountain bike tours or to visit the original rock villages like Roquebrun, Olargues or Vieussan.
The Canal du Midi
Take the bike and after a short time you will reach the Canal du Midi. In the shade of the sycamore trees you can continue your journey or explore the canal on foot or by boat. After the Cité de Carcassonne and the Pont du Gard in the north, the locks of Fonserannes are the third largest tourist attraction in the Languedoc region. It consists of 9 lock gates, six are in use. Thus, according to the tides, the boats are moved over a height of 14 meters towards the Mediterranean Sea or towards the Atlantic Ocean.
Les gorges d’ Héric. The river Héric has been digging its way into the valley for thousands of years, creating wonderful bathing spots. Small, cosy stone vats or large, polished swimming pools offer a wonderful refreshment on the way to the hamlet of Héric, where you will find a “Buvette” – a drinks kiosk.
Restaurant “Le terminus”
Dining in the old railway station – this is where the culinary journey begins.
L’O à la Bouche
In the picturesque town of “Le Somail”, on the Canal du Midi, you will find the original bar-restaurant “L’ O à la Bouche”. Here you will find classic dishes, creatively prepared. Moderate prices.
Minerve is not only worth a visit because of its unique location. The terrace of the Chantovent restaurant is situated directly on the edge of the ravine dug by the river Brian. Here, you can experience upscale French gastronomy, and at noon very reasonably priced.
